Rob, nothing is both waterproof and breathable. I have no experience with eVent fabric but without a durable water repellant (DWR) coating even the best fabrics wet out quickly. Without DWR water finds itself into the micro pores pretty quickly actually. For best results with gortex at least I've found it helpful to periodically shake the water off my gortex mittens, jackets pants etc or use a micro fleece towel. Otherwise even with fresh DWR my OR zealot wetted out in the shoulders in a day of freezing rain.

Hi Rob,
I used them in rain also with no problem, but perhaps it was not that heavy rain you had. Thanks for your comment.

I found the MLD eVent mitts NOT waterproof. Ron gave me a pair to test when he first developed these. I also seam sealed mine on the insides. Last w/e coming off Mt Taranaki in full storm gear my possum gloves were soaked after about an hour. I think these mitts are good for wind, but not heavy rain. I am surprised you report these as waterproof

I've made something different:
- Laken aluminium bottle 0,7l wide mouth
- rescue blanket
- bubble foil
- 0,5cm thick wool sock
- sill nylon sack
Total 204g

Its work very poor in 0C :-/ This setup is far worsen then any cheapest vacuum thermos.
